Higher Students’ Perception of Using Chat GPT in Translating English Texts

The study aims to find out higher students' perceptions of using Chatgpt in translating English text. This research was quantitative and involved seventy-five of the University's students who took translation subject at Universitas Islam Negeri Sjech M. Djamil Djambek. To collect the data, the researcher delivered a questionnaire as the instrument. It consists of 4 indicators with 19 statements sent via Google form links using the Likert scale strongly agree to strongly disagree to investigate students’ perspectives. The data were analyzed quantitatively using percentage formula. The result showed that most of the students perceive that chatGPT helps them in learning translation and it is beneficial to use it properly. They are happy with the use of ChatGpt for various reasons. It can be seen from the percentage of students' responses for each indicator. The first indicator, there are 55% of respondents perceive that chatGPT is easy to use, and 50% claim that ChatGPT is useful for translating text. While 60% of respondents strongly agree with the indicator of chatGPT is effective for translating text and the last 57% of respondents give a positive attitude toward using chatGPT in translating text. However, they admit in some way the use of the artificial intelligence by students needs control so it not misused.
